Dating apps: Which one should you choose?

Did you know it’s estimated that 50% of couples will meet online by 2031? A recent study of 5,000 Millennials discovered that 10 hours each week are spent on dating apps. So it would seem dating apps are here to stay!

Why use dating apps?

There are many benefits to using a dating app. For a start, they allow you to specify criteria for your perfect partner (e.g. age, sex, appearance, location, hobbies). After a tall, dark, handsome gym-goer? Or maybe an outdoorsy partner who loves adventure? Perhaps someone who loves snuggling on the sofa on a Saturday night? Simply enter your search criteria and get browsing!

Chatting before meeting in real life can help you to judge how compatible you think you’ll be and whether it’s worth putting a date in the diary. And remember, even if you have been chatting and getting on like a house on fire, you’re essentially still meeting a stranger so make sure you practice these top tips for staying safe on your date.

Which dating apps to use…

Match.com

Match is one of the big players in the world of dating apps. As well as their easy-to-navigate app, Match also host singles nights up and down the country and also organise activity-oriented meetups. They have a useful incognito mode for discreet browsing. There’s a 7-day free trial, so you can see how you get on before committing to a subscription!

eHarmony

eHarmony goes for the detail. The app asks users to complete an in-depth questionnaire about their likes and dislikes and they claim to use science to create the most compatible matches possible. The founder of eHarmony is an experienced psychologist and marriage counsellor, so he probably knows a thing or two about what makes two people click!

Bumble

Bumble can be used to find friends and people with common business interests, as well as romantic connections. Bumble was founded by Whitney Wolfe who used to work for Tinder. The platforms aren’t too dissimilar. However, Bumble differentiates themselves by only enabling women to make the first move. More power to the ladies!

Tinder

You’ve probably already heard of Tinder! The location-based dating app allows you to swipe left or right, depending on who you’re attracted to. Both like what you see? Great, you’ve made a match! You can now start a chat. Tinder offers a free basic subscription, and charges up to £14.99 a month for premium subscruptions.

Whether or not you choose to use an app to find your next date, remember to have fun and stay safe!
